Construction Update #1 - August 2026
Now that our successful groundbreaking ceremony has come and gone for the City’s newest recreation center, Friends of Lincoln Square Park is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the construction phase. Here is our first update from our recent visit to the park on the evening of August 18th.
It’s really happening!
If went by the park this month you would see the old building still standing, but changes are underway:
New construction fencing around the perimiter of the construction site
Office trailer for Amoroso Construction, the general contractors.
Some heavy machinery within the construction area
Designated area for outdoor rec center programming
Signs warning of security on-site and environemental remediation in progress
Boyscout bench from 10th and Harrison relocated to swing area in the playground
Coming Soon banners on and near the junk boat with a QR code to our project website.
Alice Street corridor remaining as it always has been, but with improved landscaping from our Earth Day event
Also still available, as always: both playgrounds, outdoor gym some basketball hoops
As a reminder, many rec center programs are continuing throughout construction in order to keep the community healthy, safe and connected.
You can find more information and official updates from the City of Oakland on their project page.
