Public Meeting: Public Works And Transportation Committee

City of Oakland, SKA Architects

We are thrilled to share that on Tuesday May 26, 2026, The Oakland Public Works and Transportation Committee will vote on a resolution to:

  1. Award a construction contract to S.J. Amoroso Construction to build our new recreation and resilience center

  2. Adopting Appropriate California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Findings

  3. Increase The Professional Services Agreement With Shah Kawasaki Architects

The City Council will follow up with a final vote on June 2nd.

This marks a major milestone in our 30 year journey to expand the capacity of the recreation center to better meet community needs. This project is not only a major priority for the Oakland Chinatown community, but it is also a priority of the City of Oakland, since it meets the goals of many of the City’s existing plans.

Once the project is approved by City Council next month, the contract will be finalized and a groundbreaking date will be set.

We will be announcing more updates as soon as we have more information. We are crossing fingers for a Late Summer / Early Fall Groundbreaking.
