Public Meeting: Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board

One step closer!

The City of Oakland and the Shah Kawasaki Architects presented the new Lincoln Square Park Center to the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board at its Board Meeting on June 12th, 2023. The Board identifies historic landmarks in Oakland, conducts design review hearings on historic properties, and advises the Planning Commission and City Council on preservation. The project is located at the historic Lincoln Square Park in Oakland Chinatown so extra care needs to be taken to ensure the park preserves certain historical features.

Friends of Lincoln Square Park and Asian Pacific Environmental Network volunteers attended to voice our support for this City of Oakland project. Watch the recording (start at 13:30 minutes in).

This meeting followed an earlier meeting in September with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. The recording, presentation and passionate public comments can be viewed starting at 2 hours and 21 minutes in. The Planning Commission is the next step for final planning approvals.

Friends of Lincoln Square Park is a volunteer-based community group supporting the City’s efforts to build a larger recreation and community resiliency center to better meet the needs of the community. We invite the public to learn more and get involved in this once-in-a-generation campaign!
