Construction Update #2 - September 2026

Friends of Lincoln Square Park is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the construction phase. Here is our September update from our recent visit to the park the week of September 27th.

Here are the latest updates:

  • In response to community concerns, Amoroso Construction reconfigured construction fencing around the perimeter of the construction site so that sidewalk access is wider and safer

  • Interior remediation and demo has been completed

  • The City and Contractor is working on finalizing all the permits needed to proceed with demolition of the building

  • Signage has been posted around that park that Major noise and demolition activities are planned from October 7, 2026, to November 20, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Falling debris and loud noise are expected within the fenced construction area. Dust and airborne particles may be present. Watch for vehicles entering and exiting the site.

  • Due to the upcoming demolition schedule, our October Lincoln Summer Nights has cancelled. We are sad we can’t celebrate with the community, but are excited to see the construction move forward at last. We encourage everyone to attend the Oct 7th screening at the Grand Lake Theater featuring our very own park and beloved park staff!

Other updates:

  • Senior programming is now taking place at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center.

  • Youth programs will be transitioning soon to a temporary nearby location

  • Alice Street corridor remaining as it always has been, but with improved landscaping from our Earth Day event

  • Still available, as always: both playgrounds, outdoor gym some basketball hoops

As a reminder, many rec center programs are continuing at the park and neighboring locations throughout construction in order to keep the community healthy, safe and connected.

Stop by the brick club house for program updates. You can find more information and official updates from the City of Oakland on their project page.
