Frequently Asked Questions

We thought you might have some questions about the campaign. Here are some answers. If we haven’t answered your question or you want to discuss sany of our answers, don't hesitate to contact us.
Why now?
The primary reason we are building now  . In order to respond to current and future needs, we need the appropriate facilities.  You may not know, but there have been plans to renovate in the past and there have been ongoing discussions for many years.  The time has come to move this project forward.
Why Build a new Center?
Further repairs to enhance the existing center would be costly and would fall short of truly rectifying the situation. And many classes are full with no room in the schedule or on the wait list.  We have simply outgrown our space!

We value our outside space as much as our inside space so we do not want to encroach on existing outdoor recreational space by expanding our current center. Outdoor play space is already limited in the downtown area, so instead, we're proposing to build a new multi-story building. The expanded footprint would include underutilized perimeter areas not currently used for anything other than decorative landscaping.

The center is over 40 years old and while it may appear to be in serviceable condition,  the current plan is to not only build a larger center, but to improve access and movement, restrooms, the lightning and sound system and the overall visitor experience. For example, the restrooms are too small to accommodate all the existing class participants, basketball players and playground visitors. Some families would like to host a small birthday gathering, but they cannot due to the current layout.

How will a Bigger Center be Better?
We envision a larger multi-purpose building that will allow ample room for community workshops and classes, larger after-school and summer programs, and ongoing neighborhood meetings and celebrations. Unlike the existing configuration, multiple groups will be able to meet at the same time; and multiple generations can mix and mingle.

A newer, larger center will allow for more space for informal gatherings as well. A new kitchen, larger restrooms, and state of the art technology, will create a more welcoming and functional center. Ultimately, the community will have more flexibility and the center will be prepared to accommodate a growing demand for community space. The center's modern design ensures a safe and secure environment for the many visitors that come here from the early morning though the late in the evening.
